Learn how to make healthy choices that save you money.

Most of us want to eat healthy, but when you’re faced with spending $5 on either an entire fast-food meal or just one head of organic lettuce, it can be difficult to choose the healthier option. Take it from the experts at Bastyr Center for Natural Health that even if you’re on a budget or simply frugal by nature, all it takes is a bit of planning to make decisions that are both inexpensive and good for your health.

Lisa Holman and Stephanie Fairweather, who have been living frugally as students in Bastyr University’s Master of Science in Nutrition program, will teach you their own tricks on "How to Eat Healthy on a Budget" from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, as Bastyr Center for Natural Health kicks off its 2013-14 Living Naturally lecture series. Under the guidance of clinical supervisor Kelly Morrow, MS, RD, CD, Holman and Fairweather will offer tips on how to stretch your dollars and make healthy choices such as:

  • How to avoid processed foods and why you should.
  • When it’s worth paying extra for organic
  • How to buy bulk foods and keep them fresh
  • Where to find inexpensive organic and whole foods in the Seattle area
  • Recipes featuring moneywise healthy meals and snacks

"Living Naturally: Conversations on Health and Happiness with Bastyr Experts" is a free series of talks presented by Bastyr University and its teaching clinic, Bastyr Center for Natural Health. All of the talks take place at Bastyr Center for Natural Health in Seattle and feature an audience Q-and-A session.
