This homestudy could be entitled “Insurance Coding 101.” It’s a review of the basics and offers insights into the complexities of coding in practice. It will focus on the insurance charting and coding for the most common types of services practicing naturopathic doctors encounter. We will review ICD-9 and CPT guidelines, and then utilize chart notes as illustrations for the proper use of ICD-9 and CPT codes. In addition, we will review billing procedures to ensure prompt payment and how to avoid the most common billing mistakes. You will also be able to email questions to the instructor for live discussion.
Upon completion of this home study you will be able to:
Describe how to more effectively chart to support different levels of E/M coding.
Describe how to use ICD-9 codes to support the E/M codes.
Describe how to avoid costly mistakes in the billing process, ensuring prompt payment of your claims.
