Bastyr students notice their full schedules getting
even busier after they've realized all of the opportunities the school and surrounding area
have to offer. Not only do the many cities in the area provide shopping and cultural
opportunities, but the vast acres of fields and woodlands at Bastyr create an obvious outlet
for recreation and fun. Students can use the outdoor volleyball court, basketball court and
play fields in this mild climate for much of the year. If you show up at the right time, you
can get in on the organized soccer, basketball and ultimate Frisbee games. In addition, the
adjacent St. Edward State Park provides access to a public swimming pool, tennis courts, biking
trails and a gymnasium. So, if you need a break from studies, try any of the above or just
wander down to the lake and dip your toes in.
If you're more inclined toward intellectual or social pursuits, you can attend the various
lunch-hour or after-hours lectures and seminars on campus, with topics ranging from
"macrobiotics" to "grief and loss" to "life without wheat." Groups such as the Bastyr Environmental Action Team and Herbal
Ways Club are always forming and attracting those with similar interests. Study groups that
meet on or off campus are also a big part of student life.
