Faculty Bio: Nancy Biery, PhDNancy Biery, PhD Dr. Biery is interested in the following areas of research:
I have mentored students in a wide variety of research, including the anti-oxidant capacity of wine and broccoli. I am currently working with a T32 student investigating optimal extraction conditions for goldenseal as an anti-microbial and cholesterol-lowering supplement, including a comparison to Oregon grape (which has some of the same constituents and is more readily available). I also serve as a mentor to a postdoctoral fellow investigating the molecular mechanisms of stimulation of the immune system using fungal extracts. As a graduate student, I conducted research in the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular disorders including Marfan syndrome and tetralogy of Fallot. As a postdoc, I continued with my fondness for the cardiovascular system, investigating the molecules involved in cardiomyocyte differentiation.
