Participate in a study on the effectiveness of garlic supplements in lowering cholesterol levels in HIV-positive individuals currently taking HAART.
Are you HIV-positive and taking HAART medications?
Bastyr University researchers are currently studying the potential benefits of a garlic supplement for HIV-positive individuals taking HAART that have high cholesterol levels in the blood
You ARE eligible if you
- Are between the ages 18-65
- Are HIV-positive
- Have an HIV viral load less or equal to 2,000
- Have a CD4 count more or equal to 100
- Are on stable HAART for at least 6 months
- Have blood total cholesterol higher than 200
- Have blood triglycerides lower than 1000
You must NOT
- Be pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have an unexplained weight loss of more than 10%
- Have a history of diabetes or pancreatitis
- Be receiving chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer
