Participate in a study on the effectiveness of garlic supplements in lowering cholesterol levels in HIV-positive individuals currently taking HAART.

Are you HIV-positive and taking HAART medications?

Bastyr University researchers are currently studying the potential benefits of a garlic supplement for HIV-positive individuals taking HAART that have high cholesterol levels in the blood

You ARE eligible if you

  • Are between the ages 18-65
  • Are HIV-positive
  • Have an HIV viral load less or equal to 2,000
  • Have a CD4 count more or equal to 100
  • Are on stable HAART for at least 6 months
  • Have blood total cholesterol higher than 200
  • Have blood triglycerides lower than 1000

You must NOT

  • Be pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have an unexplained weight loss of more than 10%
  • Have a history of diabetes or pancreatitis
  • Be receiving chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer
