T32 Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Bastyr University Research Institute

Current Research

After training in the basic sciences, Dr. Engel took the T32 post-doctoral fellowship to get additional training in immunology, pre-clinical mouse studies and natural products research. She is working on a collaborative project between Bastyr University and University of Washington Medical Research with mentor Dr. Hailing Lu. They are studying the immune activation properties of a mushroom extract, polysaccharide krestin (PSK), in a breast cancer model.

  • BS in biology from College of Idaho
  • Post-baccalaureate training award at Rocky Mountain Laboratory (NIAID/NIH) in Hamilton, Montana
  • PhD in biochemistry and molecular & cellular biology at Georgetown University
