NEWS RELEASE THE GOOD LIFE: BOOKS FOR BETTER LIVINGThe Creative Duo Behind Words & Wine Launches New Author Series Co-Sponsored By Bastyr University March 27, 2009 (Kenmore, Wash.) — In their continued quest to inspire, entertain, and introduce Seattleites to the most interesting of authors, literary guru Kim Ricketts and personality extraordinaire Warren Etheredge have created a new author series. The Good Life: Books for Better Living kicks off April 2 with a playful evening lead by psychiatrist Dr. Stuart Brown. "I've always been inspired by the way people gather together in pubs, cafes, and homes to share experiences," noted Ricketts. "The recent Presidential debates and inauguration are examples. And, I thought, that even in these stressful economic times, we still seek togetherness and shared experience, or what I've dubbed, The Good Life. Thus a new series has evolved." The new series will feature a wide range of smart and entertaining authors who will share their ideas about the good life. Ideas that may suggest you play more, eat real food, dig in the dirt, strive to do the right thing, and perhaps, eat more chocolate. All good things! The first guest of the series is Dr. Stuart Brown, author of Play: How it Shapes our Brains, Opens the Imagination and Invigorates the Soul. Dr. Brown, a psychiatrist, has spent decades studying animal and human "play," and his research proves that play is essential to our skills of adaptability, intelligence, creativity, problem solving, and more. Aside from being fun, the benefits of play have profound implications for child development, education, social policy, and even the future of our society. Play might, in fact, be the most important work you can ever do. Come and learn how to add more "play" to your life! The Good Life series will take place at Tom Douglas' Palace Ballroom. Guests will nibble on delicious appetizers, and the highly engaging Etheredge will lead an onstage conversation with the author. The evening will end with a book signing and sampling of award-winning Theo Chocolates. The cost of the events is $25 per person, which includes a copy of the featured book, appetizers, and a bit of chocolate. A cash bar will be available for those inclined. Doors open at 6:30 pm for mingling, and the interview will begin at 7pm. To purchase tickets, visit http://www.kimricketts.com/thegoodlife.html (via Brown Paper Tickets) or call the Book Events' office at (206) 632-2419.
