Most of the restrictions in the body develop as a response to some form of trauma in the life of the client (including prenatal experiences). In CranioSacral Levels 1 and 2, the focus is on a biomechanical/structural approach to releasing restrictions found in the body, the cranium and the face. In Level 3, the focus shifts to another aspect of “restriction” in the body - the emotional response, which can also develop as a response to some form of trauma. Mudras are hand gestures used for cultivating specific states of mind. It is believed that the practice of Mudra helps to awaken these states within you. Mudras can be found in the art and rituals of many sacred traditions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Hatha yoga. The origins of specific Mudras are unknown, but it is believed that each gesture is the natural outer expression of an enlightened inner state. In this workshop several of the major Mudras will be introduced and explored with an emphasis on how performing a Mudra affects the strength and balance of the upper trunk and shoulders.
Some prior yoga experience is recommended.

Talking to people and telling them to change their thinking is simply no longer state-of-the-art treatment. A growing body of scientific research and literature, especially in the field of trauma, recognizes that the dysregulation of affect and disruptions in mood and thought are driven by the body – more specifically by disturbances in the body’s bioenergetic patterns. Holidays can be a time of great joy or sorrow. The media tells us it’s a time to spend with family and loved ones. When you’ve lost a loved one on or close to a holiday, you’ve got a sad reminder each year of that event. For some, the issue might not be the death of a loved one but a traumatic experience that occurred on a holiday such as a fire, or tragic accident on July 4th.

How do we cope with those losses? How do we express our grief so that others will respect our wishes for celebrating the holiday or not?

Audit a Class @ Bastyr

Did you know that you (the general public) can take many of the University's regular academic courses, assuming extra seats are available and you have the required prerequisites?

You can either audit classes or take them for credit. These 11-week classes, usually held on weekdays, are available in the nutrition, culinary arts, exercise science, health psychology and herbal sciences programs.
