Studies Suggest Lifestyle Choices Help Prevent Dementia
Although genetic make-up is partly responsible for age-related cognitive problems, studies increasingly show that lifestyle choices also play a significant role. Recent research suggests that if you continue to be physically active as you age, you may be able to slow or stop the loss of mental functioning and prevent dementia. Studies have also found that people who eat foods rich in antioxidants (from vegetables and fruits) and omega-3 fatty acids (from fish, flax or walnut oils) might be protected against cognitive decline and dementia. Additionally, a Mediterranean diet has been linked to a lower Alzheimer's risk. Find out more.
