Vitamin D Deficiency Deserves Your Attention

Study Shows Walnuts Protect Arteries from Fatty Foods
A recent study published in the October 17 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology showed that walnuts can protect your arteries from the effects of fatty foods. In the study, subjects were given high-fat foods paired with either olive oil or about eight walnuts, and those who ate walnuts were shown to have less damage to their arteries afterwards. A scientist, commenting on the study, notes that, "This demonstrates that the protective fat from walnuts actually undoes some of the detrimental effects of a high-saturated-fat diet." He explains that omega-3 -rich oils and fats, including walnuts, canola oil and flaxseed oil, are "probably quite protective." Source: Medscape Medical News 2006
