Welcome to Bastyr News!

At Bastyr, we aim to bring health and wholeness to people of all ages, to the body as well as the mind, to those in the United States and across the globe. This issue encompasses that broad focus.

If you have young children, make sure you note the featured book, An Encyclopedia of Natural Healing for Children and Infants. For those with elderly relatives, Bastyr's study on natural care at the end of life should be of interest. To address the body's nourishment, you'll want to find out more about PCC Cooks classes being held in our state-of-the-art teaching kitchen, as well as our own teaching clinic's nutrition services, which include helpful, hands-on guided shopping trips. You'll also read about important work being done in Kenya to address the HIV/AIDS crisis, and discover a few of our degree programs that combine the mental, emotional and physical sides of health. So embrace the totality of health -- starting with this issue!

Alumni Spotlight (Undergrad): Exercise Science Grad Relishes Unique Approach
Brandon Dudley, a graduate of Bastyr’s exercise science and wellness program, explains why he initially chose this program: “I didn't know exactly what type of job I wanted, but I knew what my interests were: exercise, nutrition and psychology—basically, just health. Bastyr helped me because it didn't separate those different fields.” Now he’s reaping the rewards of that knowledge as he furthers his career. Read more about Brandon Dudley.

Students Bring a Dream to Life in Kenya
When naturopathic student Chris Halperin passed away in April 2003, some people feared the humanitarian work he initiated in HIV/AIDS-stricken Kenya would cease. Fortunately, through the determination of fellow students, Halperin's work lives on. For the last two years, a small group of students have traveled to Kenya to serve villagers in Chris’s name, assisting in village clinics and dispensing vitamins and donated botanical medicines.
