Welcome to Bastyr News!

As spring turns to summer, we at Bastyr find there's more to celebrate than the return of sunshine. We just added nearly 260 people to the ranks of our graduates, and we wish them well as they transform people's health and the health care system. In this issue, you'll see stories of earlier graduates who are good models for these new graduates as well as researchers making their mark in the CAM field. You'll also read about the successes our current students have had in their national exams and internship placements, which show us that we're not just helping people "do good," but also to do well at it! And speaking of wellness, we've included a few articles and tips on how to improve your health.

Enjoy this issue -- and the summer!

Study Shows Vitamin D May Help Prevent Cancer
Few of us worry about how much vitamin D we get each day, but that may change soon, if recent research results are any indication. Vitamin D's protective health effects are being discovered in droves. For instance, according to a recent study published in the April 5 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, a vitamin D deficiency is associated with an increased risk for cancer, particularly of the gastrointestinal tract. Study authors wrote, "If the promise of vitamin D holds, a brief walk in the sun may turn out to be a step toward cancer prevention." Source: Medscape Medical News
