Reduce the Risk of Premenstrual Syndrome
Would you like to stave off premenstrual syndrome (PMS) before it starts? Several natural remedies may provide help. For instance, according to the results of a case-control study published in the June 13 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine, a high intake of calcium and vitamin D may reduce the risk of PMS. The study followed 3,000 women with no PMS symptoms over a 10 year period, and found that those taking the most vitamin D had a much lower risk of developing PMS. High calcium intake, including skim or low-fat milk, was also associated with a lower risk of PMS. Source: Medscape Medical News.

Low-Glycemic-Index Diet Helpful in Men With Type 2 Diabetes
If you’re a man with diabetes, here’s some dietary guidance sure to make a difference. A new study published in the August issue of Diabetes Care shows that a low-glycemic-index (LGI) diet improves glycemic control, some lipid profiles and fibrinolysis in men with type 2 diabetes. The study, which tracked glycemic responses in 12 men, suggests that consuming LGI carbohydrates as part of diabetic men’s daily carbohydrate servings may be a good strategy.
