Health psychology students

Health Psychology Prerequisites

Entering undergraduates must have at least a 2.25 cumulative GPA with a grade of C or better in basic proficiency and science requirement courses. Prior to enrolling, students must have completed 90 quarter credits (60 semester credits), including a minimum number of credits in specific proficiencies and general education requirements. Students may apply to the program while completing prerequisite course work. Students who have not completed all the prerequisites may not be eligible to take some courses.

Basic Proficiency and Science Requirements

English literature or composition 9 quarter credits
Intermediate algebra 1 course*
General psychology 3 quarter credits
General biology (with lab) 4 quarter credits
General chemistry
(science major level with lab)
8 quarter credits**

*Intermediate algebra is not college level and the credits taken will not transfer in toward degree completion.
**These credits are requirements for the health psychology and human biology/pre-med tracks only.

General Education Requirements

Natural science and mathematics 12 quarter credits
Arts and humanities 15 quarter credits
Social sciences 15 quarter credits
Speech communication or public speaking 3 quarter credits
Electives 29 quarter credits*

*The number of elective credits may vary depending upon the exact number of quarter credits earned in the other prerequisite categories. Total prerequisite credits must equal at least 90 quarter credits. To graduate, students must have a minimum of 45 credits in residence at Bastyr.

Strongly Recommended Courses
Though not required for admissions, the faculty recommends that students complete a college-level math course in addition to the prerequisite requirements.
