Spring | Summer 2009 View/download Bastyr Magazine in its entirety (2MB) Breaking New Ground
Bastyr University officials have announced that plans are underway to develop new eco-friendly, on-campus student housing. The village of 11 cottage-style buildings will house a total of 132 students and will be ready for occupancy in the summer of 2010. But this is no typical dorm. Each unit is a single room with a private bath and clusters of 12 rooms will share a large common room, a kitchen, a study, a laundry room and storage. Designed to fit into the campus' natural environment, the 11 buildings will be clustered around gardens and will be located just west of the tennis courts along the tree line. LEED certification will guarantee green construction and the additional housing will help minimize the number of commuters to campus, reduce pollution and traffic on local roads, and enhance the sense of community at Bastyr. Please contact the Office of Development for naming opportunities.
