Yoga is a way into life. Develop greater awareness of your body's strengths and challenges through yoga. Using the yoga postures (asana) appropriately, we can bring more freedom and peace into our bodies and minds. Working with the breath (pranayama), we can cultivate stillness and strength.
This class serves as an introduction for beginners as well as a practice enhancer for more experienced yogis. Each class emphasizes clear instruction, alignment-based movement, and breath work. You are encouraged to practice the yoga poses at your own level of comfort.

Upon completion of the seminar you will be able to:
- Gently guide your body into poses that are appropriate for your level of fitness
- Demonstrate standing and forward bending poses
- Demonstrate seated and standing twists
- Demonstrate semi-inversions (such as down dog)
- Perform a sequence of seated, standing, semi-inverted, and reclined Hatha yoga positions with grace and ease
- Practice with the breath to create a calm inner presence
Course Notes: Yoga mats, blankets, blocks and straps provided but you may wish to bring your own. Wear loose-fitting comfortable clothing.
Location: Bastyr University Kenmore Campus, room 15. Bastyr University is housed in an older facility with fluctuating interior temperatures; it is advisable to wear layers. Also, Bastyr is a “fragrance-free” campus.
Heidi Fischer, CYT
Heidi is a certified yoga teacher (CYT) and graduate of Pacific Yoga’s Teacher Training Programs (200 hour and 500 hour programs), which provide alignment-based study of yoga postures as well as a significant survey of anatomy and yoga philosophy. She has been practicing since 2005, and is grateful for the continuing teachings of her yoga mentors, Theresa Elliott and Kathryn Payne.
Heidi has also been a volunteer counselor for over ten years, providing non-judgmental listening and emotional support to clients with life-threatening illnesses. She strives to bring this same open minded and compassionate perspective to her teaching and to her life. Heidi can be reached at email@example.com
