Paul Bergner, Medical Herbalist & Clinical Nutritionist
Paul Bergner has over 35 years of clinical experience and is the Director of the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism in Boulder, CO. He is a prolific writer and lecturer and has been the editor of the journal Medical Herbalism since its founding in 1989.
Bergner’s lectures combine his experience from decades of patient contact with extensive teaching in a variety of settings. He is a proponent and practitioner of the Vitalist tradition of medicine and, as such, his perspective reflects the roots of naturopathic medicine integrated with current science and grounded in practical applications for effective patient care.
Natalie Freedman, ND
Dr. Freedman is an adjunct faculty member at Bastyr Center for Natural Health and works in Integrative Family Medicine, both in private practice and the student teaching clinic. She has spent 16 years in private practice, both in Australia and the USA with a specialty in orthopedics, sports medicine, peripheral neurology and chronic pain. She has also worked for the sports organizations, the National Hockey League and the World Wrestling Federation.
Dr. Freedman takes a special interest in the treatment of chronic disease, particularly auto-immune disease, rheumatology, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
She earned her post-graduate degree in physiotherapy from LaTrobe University in Melbourne, Australia, and an ND from Bastyr University. She is also a licensed physical therapist in WA State.
Eric Blake, ND
Dr. Eric Blake is a graduate from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. There he completed a Masters in Science of Oriental Medicine and a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine. He pursued special studies in Physical Medicine for infectious and degenerative diseases, Constitutional Hydrotherapy, history of natural medicine and German iris diagnosis. Before graduating he was already teaching and lecturing in the hydrotherapy courses and after graduation taught hydrotherapy and was Clinical Coordinator for the Hydrotherapy Department at NCNM. He is in now in private practice and directing the clinic Holistic Health located in downtown Portland, Oregon, and is adjunct faculty at National College teaching 20th century naturopathic history and also lectures on iris diagnosis.
Dr. Blake has published cases on Naturopathic Physical Medicine in professional journals, has authored a teaching text on naturopathic physiotherapy for physicians, is lead author of the chapters on naturopathic history, hydrotherapy, and electrotherapy, and contributing editor of the international textbook Naturopathic Physical Medicine published by Elsevier, contributing author on naturopathic physiotherapy to an updated textbook Fibromyalgia Syndrome to be published this year, and is currently contributing a chapter on naturopathic physiotherapy to a textbook on Chronic Pelvic Pain for publication in 2010.
Dr. Blake is a licensed Naturopathic Physician in the state of Oregon and is Nationally Certified as a Diplomat in Acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
Doug Lewis, ND
Dr. Lewis is the current President of the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians. For more than 20 years, Dr. Lewis has operated a private practice of naturopathic medicine in Seattle, with an emphasis on physical medicine. For most of that time, before becoming President of the WANP in 2006, he served as an adjunct faculty member and clinical supervisor atBastyr University, including two terms as chair of the university’s Department of Physical Medicine. At Bastyr, Dr. Lewis taught courses in hydrotherapy and physiotherapy modalities, soft tissue manipulation, muscle energy techniques and joint manipulation. He has also consulted and taught workshops in England and Ireland. A frequent contributor to natural medicine guides and textbooks, Dr. Lewis’ writings include contributions to Naturopathic Physical Medicine and Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide, as well as authorship of the book Practical Hydrotherapy for the Whole Family. Dr. Lewis earned his ND from John Bastyr College of Naturopathic Medicine (now Bastyr University) in Seattle.
Geoff Lecovin, MS, DC, ND, L.Ac, CSCS
Lecovin is a chiropractor, naturopathic physician and acupuncturist. He graduated from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1990, earned a Masters in Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport in 1992, and then went on to complete the naturopathic and acupuncture programs at Bastyr University in 1994. He holds additional certifications in exercise from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, National Academy of Sports Medicine and International Society of Sports Nutrition.
Dr. Lecovin specializes in treating musculoskeletal pain and sports injuries by integrating trigger point acupuncture, soft tissue release, joint manipulation, corrective exercise and nutrition. In addition, he combines exercise and nutrition for weight loss, weight gain, and performance enhancement. His clinic, located in Bellevue, WA, offers naturopathic medicine, chiropractic, acupuncture, massage and infrared sauna therapy. William Caradonna, ND
Dr. Caradonna received a BS in Pharmacy in 1976 from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He earned his ND degree from Bastyr University in 1997. He also was an adjunct faculty member there from 1988 to 1997. He is currently in private practice at the Queen Anne Naturopathic Center in Seattle. JoAnna Forwell, ND
Originally from Canada, Dr. Forwell came to Seattle to study medicine at Bastyr University, graduated in 1992, and has been practicing medicine in the Emerald City ever since. In addition to her ‘treat whatever ails you’ general practice, she specializes in injury and pain management using prolo, meso and neural therapy injections among other techniques. She is a former member of the board of both the American and Washington Associations of Naturopathic Physicians, and is a current board member with the Naturopathic Academy of Therapeutic Injections (NATI) where she is an adjunct instructor at NATI training conferences.
