Stable structures are built on a stable foundation. Our body depends on a sturdy base to provide it with the necessary means to move us through our lives. Chronic foot, knee and hip pain can make it difficult to do the things we love and go to the places we most want to be. Robin will show you how to develop strength, flexibility and solid alignment from the feet up! This yoga practice will be useful for those who are experiencing discomfort and for health-care practitioners who work with those who suffer from foot, knee and hip conditions. Feb 9, Sat, 10:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. Instructor: Robin Rothenberg, Certified Yoga Therapist 5.5 CEUs/PDAs

Yoga as therapy offers a unique support to traditional and complimentary health care approaches by exploring the interrelationship between the physical, energetic, mental and psycho-spiritual dimensions of our being and bringing them into balance. Gathering together wisdom from multiple traditions of yoga and strong training in functional anatomy, Robin has been able to cure herself of life-long plantar fasciitis, as well as chronic knee and hip pain. This workshop is intended to deepen your understanding of how common misalignments and imbalances can be addressed and alleviated through yoga, simple awareness, and movement techniques. Techniques are applicable to all ages and physical capacity.

Upon completion of this seminar you will be able to:

  • Develop good postural alignment from the feet up
  • Identify personal imbalances that contribute to pain
  • Practice specific techniques to address imbalances and alleviate pain
  • Increase proprioceptive awareness through practices which interconnect each part to the next
  • Maximize inner core strength by working with the foundational musculature

Robin Rothenberg, Certified Yoga Therapist

Robin teaches classes at Evergreen and Swedish Hospitals and sees private clients at Rehab Options of Issaquah. By synthesizing her years of training in Iyengar, Viniyoga and functional anatomy, Robin has developed a unique, adaptive way of teaching alignment and addressing common structural imbalances which create pain. She has helped many seasoned yoga practitioners as well as those new to practice with developing a clearer understanding of how to strengthen and stabilize their bodies and establish healthier movement patterns to alleviate strain.

Robin is an internationally recognized yoga therapist, who has developed the protocol for several National Institutes of Health studies on therapeutic yoga. She presents clinics and workshops around the country and has taught for four years at Mt. Royal University in Calgary. She is the author of: The Essential Low Back Program: Relieve Pain and Restore Health, and Soothing the Spirit, a deep relaxation CD to reduce anxiety, stress and insomnia. Robin writes the “Mentor’s Corner” column for Yoga Therapy Today, troubleshooting challenges that arise for practitioners in the field of yoga therapy. She is program director for Essential Yoga Therapy, running trainings at the 500-YA level, and a comprehensive Yoga Therapy Training for seasoned teachers.
