Academics - San Diego Campus

Students come to Bastyr because they seek careers that resonate with their core values, including a belief in natural healing and whole-person medicine. They prepare for success as naturopathic doctors with the support of our state-of-the-art clinical training model, which trains students to formulate effective, personalized treatment plans for patients.

This in-depth clinical training, coupled with Bastyr's robust basic sciences curriculum, is responsible for our graduates consistently earning top scores on the Naturopathic Licensing Examinations (NPLEX). And because our graduates speak the common language of science, they work as peers with other health care providers in integrative settings.

Curriculum

Please note: Bastyr University California currently is offering only the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) program. We hope to offer additional programs in the coming years.

Students in the naturopathic medicine program in California have the same curriculum as those at the Kenmore, Washington, campus. Beginning in fall 2012, both campuses are using a retooled curriculum that emphasizes integrated learning. The new curriculum also reduces classroom hours and introduces clinical training earlier in a student's education. Read more about the new curriculum or view a graphical illustration.

Clinical Training

The teaching clinic at the San Diego campus, Bastyr University Clinic, gives students the opportunity to learn together while offering stellar natural health care to all people, with services ranging from prevention to optimal health, and acute to chronic disease. Clinic services include naturopathic primary care, nutrition counseling, botanical medicine, physical medicine, hydrotherapy, craniosacral therapy, mind-body-spirit medicine and women’s health care (including hormonal support and annual exams). To make an appointment at the clinic, call (858) 246-9730.

Accreditation

The Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree program in California is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The NWCCU is an institutional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
