Systemic iron changes, haptoglobin phenotypes and Parkinson's disease risk

This study explores if changes in serum iron levels and iron binding proteins are associated with an increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease. This study focuses on iron changes due to the presence of particular phenotypes, or lifestyle factors, or the interplay between genetic and environmental factors.

Healthy participants are recruited as well as patients affected with Parkinson's disease, in a case/controls study.

Eligibility:

  • be between 45 and 89 years of age
  • attend one study visit in the morning after overnight fasting
  • answer questions about your lifestyle
  • have your blood drawn for testing

Compensation for your effort will be $30 at the completion of the visit. Call the Haptoglobin and Iron Study line at (425) 602-3316 for more information.
