The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) invites public comments on its proposed name change to the National Center for Research on Complementary and Integrative Health. Comments will be accepted through June 6, 2014.

NCCAM director Josephine Briggs, MD, states in a video message: "The goal of this change is to better align the Center's name with the evolution in health care and our research focus, and thus best address our Congressional mandate."

Naturopathic medicine supporters from around the country convened in Washington DC for the annual DC Federal Legislative Initiative (DC FLI) in April. DC FLI lets members of Congress learn about the benefits of naturopathic medicine and upcoming legislative bills to support the profession. This year’s event focused on legislation to integrate naturopathic doctors as Medicare health care providers and to implement a second annual Naturopathic Medicine Awareness Week.

Bastyr University California student Adam Silberman will represent Bastyr as a finalist for the Student Scholarship Series at the Northwest Naturopathic Physicians Convention (NWNPC) in Vancouver, British Columbia, April 25-27. The annual scholarship program is open to naturopathic medicine students at all three West Coast naturopathic medical schools.

On April 14, 2014, with bipartisan support and Governor Martin O’Malley’s signature, Maryland became the 18th state to license naturopathic doctors (NDs). The newly signed law provides the people of Maryland greater access to comprehensive naturopathic health care by licensed professionals.
