Introducing the California Faculty!

When Bastyr University California opens in the Sorrento Valley on Sept. 14, becoming the state’s first and only accredited school of naturopathic medicine, it welcomes six faculty members who will guide nearly 50 students pursuing their Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) degree. The teaching roster includes:

  • Young Cho, PhDYoung Cho, PhD, who was a core faculty member in the Department of Basic Sciences at Bastyr University's Kenmore campus, where he taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses for students of naturopathic medicine, acupuncture and Oriental medicine, herbal sciences and nutrition. Dr. Cho is joining the San Diego campus as a core faculty member in the Department of Basic Sciences. According to his online bio: "Dr. Cho is convinced that good health care is more than medicine. His philosophy of teaching and research is to integrate the basic medical sciences with the holistic health care."
  • Nan Lin, MD, PhD, is joining Bastyr University California as a core faculty member in the Department of Basic Sciences and director of the human anatomy lab. Formerly an assistant professor of anatomy in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, Ga., Dr. Lin "believes that learning is a lifelong experience, especially for those who practice medicine," according to his online bio.
  • Monique Mazza, NDMonique Mazza, ND, formerly the vice president and legislative chairperson of California Naturopathic Doctors Association, will be a clinical and adjunct faculty member in the School of Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr University California. According to her online bio, "Dr. Monique Mazza believes in educating and empowering her patients to understand their illness in an effort to raise awareness of their powerful healing vital force."
  • Tabatha Parker, ND, co-founder and current executive director of Natural Doctors International (NDI), is bringing her expertise in global health and naturopathic medicine to Bastyr University California as a core faculty member in the School of Naturopathic Medicine. Dr. Parker, who has been living in Nicaragua, the second-poorest country in the western hemisphere, says on her online bio: "She has worked in the trenches seeing how structural violence affects people and health and will bring this first-hand knowledge to her students. Her move to Bastyr University will only strengthen this work and the naturopathic global health movement."
  • Tabatha Parker, NDJessica Dominguez Rieg, PhD, who is joining Bastyr University California as a core faculty member in the Department of Basic Sciences. According to her online bio: "She strives to create an active and interactive learning environment where students can tap into their own knowledge base to derive and learn difficult concepts. Dr. Dominguez Rieg is passionate about working with clinicians to teach students in an integrative learning environment about the fundamentals of physiology using a systems-based approach, with a focus on natural healing and whole-person medicine."
  • Heidi Wittmann, ND, an adjunct faculty member in the School of Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr University California, is a naturopathic doctor currently practicing in San Diego. Dr. Wittmann believes in inspiring patients to trust and honor the inherent healing capacity of their body, mind and soul. Dr. Wittmann is inspired by the interaction and bond between patient and doctor, and is grateful and honored for the opportunity to serve her patients.

The San Diego campus and clinic is located at 4106 Sorrento Valley Boulevard in the center of the city's life sciences cluster and approximately 14 miles north of downtown.

It lies within walking distance of the San Diego Coaster commuter train (which connects to more light-rail lines), and is within a short drive of the University of California-San Diego, Scripps Mercy Hospital and the VA San Diego Medical Center.
