Childbirth Educator and Doula Training Coming to San Diego

Bastyr University’s Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations will join the Bastyr University California campus, offering workshops to the public including:

  • Childbirth Educator Training
  • Postpartum Doula Skills Workshop
  • Birth Doula Skills Workshop
  • When Survivors Give Birth Workshop

Penny Simkin, a pioneer in modern childbirth education and doula training, will help inaugurate the Simkin Center's San Diego offerings, which begin in January 2013.

“Southern California has a mature and vital birth professional community and a tradition of pioneering advances in maternity care,” says Simkin Center Director Annie Kennedy, CD(PALS). “Simkin Center seeks to join this community to bring our educational program model and assist in developing strength, leadership and resources for birth professional and, ultimately, childbearing families.”

The San Diego campus and clinic is located at 4106 Sorrento Valley Boulevard in the center of the city's life sciences cluster and approximately 14 miles north of downtown.

It lies within walking distance of the San Diego Coaster commuter train (which connects to more light-rail lines), and is within a short drive of the University of California-San Diego, Scripps Mercy Hospital and the VA San Diego Medical Center.
