We're Coming to California in March!
In March, our admissions representatives are heading to California to give those in the Golden State a rare opportunity to explore Bastyr's programs in person. These "Evening with Bastyr" events, which are scheduled to accommodate full-time work schedules, will take place on the evenings of March 4 (Santa Monica), March 5 (San Diego) and March 11 (San Francisco). Attending one of these events is the perfect way to gather firsthand information about Bastyr's curriculum, campus environment, student life, and to decide which program is right for you. Take this opportunity to become acquainted with a leading natural health school nestled in the picturesque Northwest. Learn more about these upcoming California events.

Stay on Track with Your Enrollment at Bastyr this Year
If you plan to enroll in a Bastyr degree program in fall 2008, take note of this year's application deadlines. The priority deadline for applying to the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) program was February 1 and the priority deadline for all other programs is March 15. After those dates, applications are accepted on a space-available basis. To simplify the application process, we now offer online applications. Need more information before applying? Speak with an advisor by making a phone or in-person appointment, visit our campus or attend one of our on-campus events. See a schedule of application deadlines for the ND program or visit our admissions page for information about all programs.

ND Open House Provides Direction to Future Doctors
In January, we hosted another successful Naturopathic Medicine Open House, welcoming 100 prospective students to preview Bastyr's world-renowned program. The two-day event included the chance to tour the campus and teaching clinic, meet faculty members, attend lectures, learn about financial aid, and apply for the program. Attendees found the experience invaluable. In their own words: "I most appreciated the generosity offered by every single person representing Bastyr. The abundance of information exceeded my expectations and confirmed 100 percent that Bastyr is the school for me." "It was wonderful how there were so many opportunities to ask questions." "The keynote speaker gave a wonderful, concise depiction of naturopathic medicine, which I found very informative and helpful." This open house is an annual January event, so be sure to attend next year. Get the details on other Bastyr open houses and informational sessions, including the Open House for Undergraduate and Graduate Programs on March 1.

Study Abroad Through Bastyr's Venture Grant Program
Do you dream about getting out from behind the books and learning about health and wellness in other parts of the world? Bastyr provides this opportunity through its venture grant program. Throughout the year, students compete for these coveted grants, which are awarded to service projects that benefit not only the communities visited but also the entire University. The winter/spring 2007-2008 venture grant recipients were recently announced, and many of the projects — in regions such as Africa, South America or Cuba — are underway or have just been completed. Read about students’ exciting venture grant projects taking place around the world.

ND Student Travels to Africa to Volunteer with Local Nonprofits
Last fall, Katherine Martin, a fifth-year naturopathic medical student, traveled with three other Bastyr students to Ghana, West Africa, to provide medical support and education to people with HIV/AIDS. The trip, sponsored by Bastyr's Action Africa Club, provided Martin with a life-changing opportunity to help a community that lacks medical resources. The experience underscored Martin's interest in helping needy communities and deepened her awareness of the many blessings in her own life. Read more about Martin’s trip to Ghana.

Award-Winning Cafeteria Serves up Nourishing Nibbles Daily
One highlight of attending Bastyr University is the daily nourishment found at the award-winning gourmet vegetarian cafeteria. The cafeteria's wide-ranging selections satisfy a variety of diets. On the daily menu, you'll find two different tasty soups, familiar dishes such as pizza and garden burgers, creative fare such as nut loaf with cashew gravy, the ever-popular freshly baked bread, delicious desserts, and a full salad bar. Vegan and wheat-free options are usually available. The cafeteria, which is open to the public, uses organic ingredients and supports local farms. Be sure to notify the Office of Admissions in advance of your campus visit, so we can arrange a lunch date with a current student! Feast your eyes on the cafeteria menu and hours of operation.

Bastyr Graduates Score High Marks on Licensing Exam
We are proud to announce that once again Bastyr University naturopathic doctoral (ND) graduates excelled on their professional licensing examinations. The August 2007 results of the Naturopathic Physicians' Licensing Examinations (NPLEX) — a test that graduates of all CNME-accredited programs are required to pass — were just released. Bastyr graduates passed the exam at a higher rate than all other schools combined and surpassed the scores of other schools in almost every subject tested. See the results.
