Learn More About Bastyr's Programs at "Evening at Bastyr"
What is it really like to be a student at Bastyr? Where would you live? What is the coursework like? Are there social activities? At "Evening at Bastyr" on Thursday, November 15, 2007, you will receive answers to these questions and more. Spend the evening familiarizing yourself with our campus, our admissions crew and our exceptional programs in the natural health sciences. If you can't make this event, on March 1, 2008 you can attend our All-Programs Open House. Find out more about "Evening at Bastyr" or call admissions at 425.602.3330.

Now Taking Applications for Fall 2008 — Now Online
Planning to attend Bastyr in fall 2008? It's never too early to start the application process, and now is the perfect time to begin. Our priority application deadline for the naturopathic doctoral (ND) program is February 1, and March 15 is the deadline for all other programs. (Applications are accepted on a space-available basis after those dates.) If you have questions about prerequisites, the status of your application or other details about the application process, please contact an admissions advisor — that's what we're here for! And, to make your application process easier and reduce paper waste, we now also offer online applications. Contact us for more information.

Want to Become a Different Kind of Doctor? Attend the ND Open House
Discover a medical profession that combines a heart-centered, whole-person approach to healing with the best of medical science. Become a naturopathic doctor (ND). Start by attending Bastyr University's 2008 Naturopathic Medicine Open House on Friday, January 25 (teaching clinic tour in Seattle) and Saturday, January 26 (on-campus session). The open house is a great opportunity to learn more about the naturopathic medicine profession, meet faculty and students, visit the teaching clinic and ask questions. You will have a chance to hear lectures and patient case reviews as well. Last year, 150 students attended the event and one participant reported, "I learned so much and now feel that I found the program I've been searching for. After listening to the keynote presentation, I knew I was home." Stay tuned for more information about this event or call 425.602.3330.

Oh, the Places We've Gone! Recruiting Recap 2007
This fall, admissions representatives from Bastyr University were on the road for 68 days. We attended graduate school fairs, hosted information sessions and had great conversations with prospective students at 155 different events in 26 different states and one Canadian province. Read more about our adventures, which included the San Francisco Green Festival, several diversity fairs — and even California beaches! If you did not have a chance to talk with us while we were in your area, we would still love to chat with you about your future at Bastyr. Give us a call, send us an e-mail or visit our campus.

Acupuncture Alumnus William Pettis Treats Pro Athletes Around the World
It's not every day that an acupuncturist has a chance to treat world-class Olympic athletes. That is, unless that acupuncturist is William Pettis, a graduate of Bastyr's acupuncture and Oriental medicine program. Pettis has created two successful integrative Oriental medicine practices, including a high-end sports medicine center. This center, located in Seattle, is frequented by professional athletes such as George Hincapie, who rode with gold-medal cyclist Lance Armstrong in the 1990s. Pettis devotes his other practice, located in Arkansas, to integrative cancer care, and he derives as much pleasure from seeing cancer patients' tumors shrink as he does in seeing his athlete patients recover from illnesses and win competitions. Read more about Pettis' fascinating career.

Meet Your Two New ND Admissions Advisors
The Office of Admissions is proud to announce the arrival of two new naturopathic doctoral program (ND) admissions advisors! Alexis Rush hails from Boston, where she worked as an admissions advisor for a physical therapy program. At Bastyr, Alexis coordinates the ND application and interview process. Meghan Volk worked with "at-risk" youth in Ohio before moving to Seattle, where she was initially employed at Seattle University. She advises prospective students on a wide variety of areas and enjoys the opportunity to help in any way she can. Read more about these advisors, their impressions of Bastyr and their advice for prospective ND students.

Bastyr Plays Prominent Role in National Herb Day
At this year's national Herb Day festivities in Washington, DC, on October 12-14, Bastyr University had a significant presence, offering a variety of talks on the medicinal and culinary uses of herbs. Robin DiPasquale, ND, RH (AHG), chair of the Bastyr University Department of Botanical Medicine, was the keynote speaker on Friday, October 12. Her talk was entitled, "The Spiritual Dimensions of Herbs" and she gave two additional talks over the weekend. Two senior students in Bastyr's herbal sciences program accompanied Dr. DiPasquale on the trip and gave public talks on topics including, "Ten Kitchen Herbs," "Herbs for the Liver" and "Phytoremediation Using Vetiver." Meanwhile, Bastyr University celebrated national Herb Day by hosting a week of workshops and lectures on the Bastyr campus. Find out more about Herb Day and Bastyr Herb Week, and be sure to join us on campus for Herb Week in October 2008!
