It's Time to Apply!
Could it really be time to apply for fall 2008 already? It's hard to believe, but it is! So, if you haven't done so yet, talk to an admissions advisor to confirm your prerequisites and ask any other questions you have about the process of becoming a Bastyr student. In September, application forms for 2008 will be available on our website. It also may be helpful to make a phone or in-person appointment with an advisor, to visit our campus, or to attend one of our on-campus events listed below. We look forward to seeing you on our campus as you begin your journey as a leader in the natural health field!
We're on the Road, Coming Your Way Soon
If you're interested in Bastyr, but can't fly out to the Northwest to meet us before you enroll, that's okay – we may be able to come to you! Our roving admissions crew is now traveling around the country to meet you where you live. So, whether you're planted on the east coast or the west coast, there are opportunities for you to meet face-to-face with an admissions representative and get your questions answered about Bastyr University's degree programs and campus life.
View our recruiting schedule to find out when we'll be at a location near you. And keep checking back, as we will add to our schedule throughout the fall.
Connect with Bastyr at On-Campus Events
Intrigued by Bastyr's world-renowned programs in the natural health sciences, but need a little more information? Attend our upcoming event, "Bastyr Connection," on Thursday, August 23, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. You will have a chance to connect with department faculty, current students and staff to learn more about admissions, financial aid, housing and student activities. If you can't make that event, you'll have another chance to meet us and ask questions at "Evening at Bastyr," on Thursday, November 15, 2007. Additionally, it's a great idea to check out our always-informative open houses on January 25-26, 2008 (for the ND program only) and March 1, 2008 (for all grad and undergrad programs). The open houses also include tours of the campus and clinic along with a variety of natural-medicine demonstrations. Find out more about "Bastyr Connection" and see a list of upcoming events.

Long-Held Dream Comes True for Health Psychology Graduate
Motherhood is the most important job in the world, and many women choose to focus exclusively on that job for many years. And yet, as Dori Berge, a 49-year-old mother of three children and a 2007 graduate of Bastyr's health psychology BS program has discovered, it's never too late to complete a first or second college degree. After finishing the health psychology program's pre-medical track, Berge feels a sense of accomplishment and is now in a better position to pursue her interest in children in a professional capacity.

Prospective NDs Explored Bastyr's Program at "Bastyr Experience"
On August 3, over 40 guests visited Bastyr’s campus with a mission to learn more about the ever-growing field of naturopathic medicine and Bastyr's science-based program. This event, "Bastyr Experience," offered prospective students the chance to be "students for a day" – touring the campus, attending classes, interacting with current ND faculty and students, and enjoying lunch with members of the Bastyr community. Questions in the Q&A session ranged from "What is naturopathic medicine?" to "Exactly how challenging is it to relocate cross-country?" If you're curious about naturopathic medicine or any of Bastyr's other academic programs, plan to attend our next event, "Bastyr Connection" on Thursday, August 23.
Bastyr Receives $2 Million Gift
A recent $2 million bequest from an anonymous donor is the largest gift ever given to Bastyr University. This significant gift will help the University in many ways, including enhancing Bastyr's botanical medicine education by creating the Dr. William A. Mitchell, Jr. Endowed Chair in Botanical Medicine -- the world's first endowment fund to further botanical medicine education. According to Dr. Dan Church, University president, "An anonymous donor's decision to make such a significant investment in the future of Bastyr University reflects the growing recognition of our credibility as the leading academic institution in the natural health arts and sciences." Read the details about this investment in the future of Bastyr and botanical medicine studies.
Tour Bastyr's Hair-Raising Haunted Trails
Perhaps you've been to plenty of haunted houses, but have you ever taken a Halloween journey through haunted…trails? Growing every year and back by popular demand, Haunted Trails is a hair-raising tour through the dark and eerie forest trails of St. Edward State Park, right behind Bastyr University's campus. On the trails, you’ll run into ghosts and goblins, spirits, extraterrestrials and mad scientists. This annual Bastyr tradition usually includes a pumpkin-carving display and contest, and a Halloween story time for children. So, if you dare, walk Bastyr's popular Haunted Trails this October and find out what everyone has been screaming about. Be sure to check our website in early October for the exact times and dates!
Students Organize First-Time Trip to Ghana
Four Bastyr ND students will soon gain important lessons in cultural competence when they travel to Ghana, West Africa this month to work with nonprofit organizations providing medical care to local residents. The trip, sponsored by Bastyr’s Action Africa Club, will provide a richly rewarding opportunity for the students to serve, while learning about diverse medical systems. Fifth-year ND student Beth Quintana is leading trip-planning efforts and hopes this venture will lay the groundwork for more Bastyr students to travel to Ghana in the future.
