Naturopathic Medicine and Naturopathic Midwifery alumna
The naturopathic medicine program at Bastyr University prepared me to use many different systems of medicine. It's the integration of naturopathic principles and medical science that makes Bastyr the best. I now work in an integrative clinic that offers naturopathic primary care, midwifery, medical family practice, chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage, homeopathy and counseling — and it has been an easy fit for me. During my training at Bastyr I worked with each of these types of providers.
At the core of my education was learning to treat people, not diseases. I was taught to help people identify the obstacles to their healing and to use gentle therapies — including botanical medicine, homeopathy, physical medicine, dietary and lifestyle changes — to restore wellness. I also learned to see birth as a normal and joyous part of a woman's life — something to be supported and celebrated.
For those interested in exploring an education at Bastyr, know this: the naturopathic midwifery certificate program is unique. Many of the faculty not only teach classes on campus, but also welcome students into their private practices for clinical training.
For those reasons I am so grateful to have discovered Bastyr, its amazing student community and an education that includes the best of natural medicine, primary care and midwifery. I also appreciated the intensity and rigor of the training, which prepared me to excel in my practice. The program's course load is heavy and the clinical training extensive, but I was bolstered by a strong sense of collaboration and support. I had many classes with less than a dozen students where I felt a sense of personal accountability to my professor.
