I've always wanted to be an entrepreneur, so I love that I own my own medical practice. My education at Bastyr gave me the opportunity to help myself and others achieve wellness. Every day I practice what I learned at Bastyr - I identify and treat the cause of illness and treat the whole person. This means I don't just prescribe medications to treat symptoms, but instead I look for other causal factors, which might include unhealthy habits in people's everyday lives. It's not always easy for patients to make lifestyle changes, but when they do, they feel better and feel empowered about their health.
Sometimes at the end of a single day I realize that I've treated ankle pain, high cholesterol, diabetes, menopause and depression, and each patient is feeling better, without side effects. I do prescribe a lot of herbs and vitamins, but the goal is to get people back to good health, so that they can stop taking them. I believe in work-life balance, and I am able to help patients achieve balance in their lives while maintaining a sense of balance in my own life as well.
