Stephanie Lecovin, MS ('04)

Nutrition alumna

Bastyr University has helped me fulfill my career while staying true to my core values. If you're looking for a program that integrates modern approaches to nutrition with an emphasis on whole foods, Bastyr has that — with an excellent curriculum and learning environment to top it off.

Research related to nutrition changes all the time. At Bastyr I learned that while it's important to apply the latest research to your practice, it's even more important to take a balanced, common-sense, practical approach to nutrition in order to help clients and teach most effectively. This approach is reflected in the rigorous curriculum, which provided me with a comprehensive view of nutrition. I graduated with a solid foundation in dietetics, whole foods and clinical nutrition, giving me the confidence to provide my clients with sound, practiced nutritional counseling services.

Now that I work in three areas of nutrition, I'm realizing just how much Bastyr changed my life. I started my own nutritional counseling and kitchen makeover business, "Nutrition Housecalls," serve as the nutrition director for the Experience Food Project and teach nutrition at Bellevue Community College. Bastyr University provided me with the education and credentials I needed to be successful in the field while helping me develop my philosophy around nutrition and health. This has enabled me to become an effective instructor, educator and counselor. In addition, I have the confidence to be part of cutting-edge community projects that are impacting the field of nutrition. For example, in my role with the Experience Food Project, I'm working on a pilot project in the San Juan Island School District.
