I came to Bastyr University because the Master of Science in Nutrition and Clinical Health Psychology (MSNCHP) is unique and isn't offered anywhere else. It was perfect for me and integrated all of my vocational interests, including physical health, ecology and psychological counseling.
My Bastyr education allowed me to bring together all the different parts of my interdisciplinary background — working with children, studying environmental science and teaching. By enrolling in the MSNCHP program, I gained the tools to work with people on many levels — to address mental, emotional, spiritual and nutritional factors influencing their well-being. Whether I helped ease someone's pain or just provided the space where they could be heard, working with patients during my clinical training was immensely fulfilling.
Currently I'm employed in a private clinic working with foster and adopted children and their families. Most of my clientele are struggling with trauma and attachment issues. I am able to incorporate my training in mindfulness and nutrition to facilitate the healing process. Additionally, I am building a small nutrition practice at a chiropractor's office and I practice nutrition at a local YMCA.
I was impressed with Bastyr and the MSNCHP program, and I feel like I made the right choice for myself. It simply "fit" me.
