Kelly Morrow, MS ('99), RD, CD

Nutrition alumna and faculty

Bastyr University's nutrition program provides students with a comprehensive education that prepares them for today's integrative health care environment. Very few nutrition schools have a food-oriented focus and offer both complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and Western medical training. This gives our students a unique focus and an edge in the marketplace.

Our program is rigorous and trains students to high standards. We have a greater than 90 percent placement rate in dietetic internships, whereas most schools have closer to a 50-60 percent placement rate. The vast majority of our graduates are employed in the nutrition field after graduation.

Bastyr also does a good job marrying the physical, emotional and spiritual side of the healing arts. We encourage creative thinking and, best of all, we offer an environment where students can practice their art under supervision at our teaching clinic, Bastyr Center for Natural Health. Very few nutrition programs offer this! It's a huge benefit because, for most people, hands-on training is the best way to learn. And because we are a small school with small classes, we really get to know all of the students and discover where they need to grow.

Bastyr University is such a dynamic environment, and it motivates me to continue growing and learning. Coming here is like joining a family, with Bastyr students being the most important members. They contribute their passion and creativity, as well as their activism in the community and the world.
