Nutrition alumnus and co-creator of Zing Nutrition Bars
I chose Bastyr because it was one of the only institutions in the country that combined a rigorous academic education with the practical clinical experience necessary to become a fully accredited nutrition counselor. Other programs focus solely on biochemistry and are oriented toward research. Having the dietetic (DPD) courses integrated into the curriculum was also extremely helpful and enabled me to complete a comprehensive education in the least amount of time.
My education provided me with the tools to start a new career and introduced me to a wealth of contacts — a community of talented, like-minded health care professionals — who helped me land jobs and start a private practice.
The faculty support was excellent. All my teachers had office hours, and I took advantage of them. The sense of community was also very strong. I developed lasting relationships while in my program, and I feel being a Bastyr grad confers a special bond with other alumni I meet in my professional life.
It's a great school and, like so much else in life, you make of it what you put into it. If you focus on the big picture and learn the material, your efforts will be well rewarded.
